DETROIT (WKZO AM/FM) — Michigan’s Democrats have promoted Lavora Barnes of Ann Arbor to be the Chair of the State Party at their weekend convention in Detroit.
She has been the Chief Operating Officer of the Party for the last three years.
She is the first African American woman to be elected State Chair.
“I don’t like wasting time and wasting words. We are a team. We have a lot of work ahead of us, but if we continue to stand as one and fight for what we believe in . . . We’ll get this done,” as the convention delegates cheered.
“This Michigan Democratic Party is only going one direction — full-speed ahead. I’m ready. Are you ready?”
She replaces Brandon Dillon who decided not to run for reelection.
