LANSING (WKZO AM/FM) — Governor Gretchen Whitmer is replacing the Department of Environmental Quality with what she is calling the Department of the Environment, Great Lakes and Energy, or EGLE, and making other changes on the environmental front.
It shifts the focus of the department toward water quality and environmental advocacy.
She is also keeping and expanding Governor Rick Snyder’s M-PART team, which will focus on PFAS remediation and education.
She also issued an executive directive, joining Michigan with 19-other states that follow the Paris Agreement to reduce greenhouse emissions, even if the White House will not.
