GALESBURG (WKZO AM/FM) — A drug investigation in the Galesburg area has resulted in a large seizure of cash and crystal methamphetamine.
They were apparently acting on a tip and let a K-9 team lead the way. They obtained a search warrant and seized the suspected drugs. Several subjects were identified and charges are pending the results of tests on the seized items.
Local law enforcement and criminal justice officials say while heroin and fentanyl remain the most dangerous drugs on the local market, Methamphetamine remains the biggest problem because of all the resources, the jail space and the court docket that its taking to arrest, prosecute, punish and treat meth abusers.
They say the availability of cheap, high quality Chrystal Meth, manufactured in Mexican Cartel Labs, smuggled across the border at entry ports, and shipped to the Midwest from California and New Mexico has increased use of a drug, that was already a problem when addicts had to cook it themselves.
