HOLLAND TOWNSHIP (WHTC-AM/FM) — Ottawa County Investigators have released the name of the victim in an early Saturday morning shooting at the Hampton Inn in Holland Township, and also released the name of a suspect in the murder.
They are looking for 23-year-old Claudio Estrada Jr. of Holland, who may have family in Texas. TV-8 reports the prosecutor has issued a warrant charging Estrada with open murder and felony firearms.
The victim, 14-year-old Troy Wells, a student at Macatawa Bay Middle School, suffered multiple gunshot wounds shortly after midnight early Saturday.
Ottawa County Sheriff’s Capt. Mark Bennett told reporters that “Minors had come in, to use the rooms for party activity,” he said, adding that two groups began fighting. “and, ultimately, shots were fired.”
Bennett said it appeared to be gang-related, but family members of the victim deny he was a gang member. Anyone with information is asked to contact Ottawa County Sheriff’s detectives at (616) 738-4022.
