GRAND RAPIDS, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — As many as 1,300 refugees from Afghanistan could be resettled in Michigan by the end of this year.
Bethany Christian Services president Chris Palusky says they are working to find homes for them after the Taliban took control of the country following the withdrawal of the American military.
“Right now, they are hiding. They’re on lockdown because they believe their lives are in jeopardy.”
Bethany’s Susan Kragt says it is not easy for Afghans who have either fled their homes or are waiting to escape.
Many refugees who have escaped helped the U.S. military during the nearly 20-year-long war in Afghanistan.
