GRAND RAPIDS, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Jared Chance, the Grand Rapids man convicted of murdering Ashley Young of Oshtemo and then dismembering her body is heading to prison for the rest of his life.
On Thursday 30-year-old Chance was sentenced to 100-to-200 years for second degree murder after parts of Young’s body and other gruesome evidence were found in his Grand Rapids home last December.
The judge called it the worst case he had ever been involved in adding, “You are clearly a monster without any conscious whatsoever…and you should never be allowed free.”
Six family members had their chance to give victim impact statements, addressing Ashley’s killer in court. Chance stared at the ground for a majority of the statements.
Ashley’s mother was the last to address Chance in a tearful and furious statement.
Cheers were heard throughout the courtroom as Chance was walked out.
Many questions still go unanswered like the exact cause of her death or a motive, because parts of her body are still missing.
Chance’s parents, who will go to trial next year, are charged with perjury and being accessories after the fact after evidence was also found in their Holland home.
