LANSING, MI (WJXQ) — An inmate who jumped out of a moving transport van on US-127 in Lansing on Wednesday has died from his injuries.
The inmate has been identified as 21-year-old Maquise Oliver of Lansing. He was serving time in the Ingham County Jail on an assault conviction. He also was facing additional charges.
Ingham County Sheriff Scott Wrigglesworth says the Oliver somehow got a door open and jumped out, despite having on leg irons. The incident backed up traffic on US-127 for hours mid-afternoon on Wednesday. Police say Oliver was not struck by another vehicle.
The transport vehicle was taking eleven inmates from the courthouse in downtown Lansing to the Ingham County Jail in Mason when the escape attempt happened yesterday afternoon.
