ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — On Friday, a St. Joseph County judge sentenced Angel Rickett to serve eight to 40 years in prison for child abuse against her infant daughter.
The Constantine Police Department began to have suspicions after her 7-month-old daughter was taken to the hospital in March, and Three Rivers officers contacted them about alleged abuse.
Doctors told investigators that the child’s injuries did not match with Rickett’s story that her daughter had accidentally fallen off the couch. The infant suffered severe skull fractures and bruising.
Investigators allege that Rickett shook her baby violently and slapped her at the womans residence at Elm Tree Apartments in Constantine.
In October, Rickett plead quilty to first-degree child abuse. She now faces 8 to 40 years in prison for her sentence.
Her partner Derek Lamere was charged with fourth-degree child abuse because police say he had knowledge of the abuse but didn’t do anything. Lamere was later acquitted of all charges.
