UNION CITY, MI (WTVB) – Union City Police Chief Chris Mathis says a 14-year-old boy is being held in a Marshall juvenile facility after the youngster allegedly had a loaded handgun on Union City Community Schools property Monday afternoon.
Mathis says the boy made threats against three girls when he talked with other students and had the weapon stashed on school property after it was stolen from a relative.
Union City Superintendent Ronna Steel says law enforcement was immediately informed and the student was apprehended within minutes of the report.
The youngster could face several charges. Mathis says a report has been turned into Branch County Juvenile Court who in turn will submit it to the Branch County Prosecutor’s Office.
Steel says they followed their lockdown procedures when the incident took place.
Union City Police continue to investigate. Anyone with information is asked to contact them or one of the school administrators.
Counselors were made available for Union City students on Tuesday if any of them needed additional support to help process this incident.
