HOLLAND MI (WHTC-AM/FM) — Dentist Don Wickstra, a longtime Hamilton resident and Heath Township Planning Commission member, has announced his candidacy for the 26th District State Senate seat.
He filed his official paperwork with the Michigan Bureau of Elections Friday, April 20.
It’s his first attempt to run for public office. He’ll be challenging two other Republicans, former State Representative and current Allegan County Clerk Bob Genetski and Michigan’s former lottery commissioner Aric Nesbitt for a primary runoff set for Tuesday, Aug. 7.
Current 26th District State Senator Tonya Schuitmaker cannot run for re-election; she is term-limited. .
