HOLLAND (WHTC-AM-FM) — Holland Police reserve Sgt. Dan Lubbers and fellow reservist Lt. Nathan Weiler, on duty during Thursday’s Dutch Dance rehearsals, agreed on the best part of Holland’s annual Tulip Time Festival: People.
“There are people I haven’t seen in 10 years and they’ll walk up and say, ‘Hey, Dan.” Lubbers said, adding that he enjoys the chance encounters when he’s in uniform. “You kind of stick out in a crowd.”
Lubbers has worked Tulip Time for 12 years, Weiler has served at nine festivals and is amazed at how well-know Holland’s celebration of tulips and warmer weather has become.
“You think, ‘Hey, somebod’s going to come up here from somewehre in the United States,” Weiler said. “Oh, no. They’re coming ing from India, or they’re coming in from, you know, who-knows-where. And sometimes? It’s just to come here for this. And it’s amazing.”
Tulip Time Festival kicks of its klompen Saturday and runs through Mother’s Day.
