GRAND RAPIDS, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Additional charges were anticipated in the dismemberment death of Ashley Young of Oshtemo but they were expected to be filed against Jared Chance, the friend from Grand Rapids charged with mutilating her body after her death.
Instead new charges were leveled against his parents, Barbara and James Chance of Holland, who were charged for perjury and for being accessories after the fact.
Detectives claim that the two knew that Chance had dismembered the body, but they did nothing about it.
Our Holland news operation reports that a vehicle was removed from their property.
Prosecutors claim the couple had been at the scene of the crime on Franklin Street S.E. the day before police learned about it from Chance’s downstairs neighbor.
James Chance is a retired cop and Barbara is a respiratory therapist.
They are currently free on $25,000 bond each.
