KENT COUNTY (WKZO AM/FM) — Grand Rapids Police have released a little more information about a suspicious death case that may involve a missing woman from Oshtemo.
Frankly they don’t know who the victim is because of the condition of the body. Sgt. Dan Adams says until they do have positive identification, they are reluctant to speculate.
They will send samples to a State Police crime lab to see if they can get a DNA match and that takes time. What they have said is that 29-year-old Jared Chance will be charged today with mutilating a body and concealing the death of an individual. Those are both felonies, holding charges that will allow them to keep Chance in custody until test results come back.
The body was found wrapped in a tarp in the basement of the home by Chance’s downstairs neighbor. Chance is a longtime acquaintance of Ashlee Young, who remains missing.
Forensic teams were back in the house on Franklyn S.E. in Grand Rapids last night where the crime was reported. They aren’t saying why.
Chance has a criminal history of property crimes, substance abuse violations and one count of resisting officers. That record could be used by the prosecutor to argue for a high bond today.
