HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — Police have arrested a suspect in a series of at least six cash-store robberies in at least four West Michigan counties, according to Ottawa County Sheriff’s Capt. Mark Bennett.
Investigators found the 46-year-old suspect based on a tip, he said.
On Wednesday afternoon, police spotted the man driving near Ottawa County’s eastern border. He was stopped just beyond that, in Kent County, by Michigan State Police troopers and Ottawa County Sheriff’s deputies, Bennett said. He was arrested without incident.
Bennett said police will meet with prosecutors to discuss specific charges.
The investigation continues. The suspect’s name is being withheld pending arraignment; he remains in Ottawa County Jail, facing a single count of armed robbery, according to Bennett.
Holland Police Capt. Keith Mulder emailed the media to say that the suspect is believed to be linked to the Dec. 4, 2018, armed robbery of the Check ‘N Go at 1111 S. Washington Ave.
The thief didn’t get any cash from an attempted robbery in Alpine Township — but they believe this is the latest in a string of similar incidents, including three shops in Kent County and one each in Ottawa, Allegan, Muskegon, and Newaygo counties. In many of the incidents, the thief wore a UM hoodie.
