TEKONSHA, MI (WTVB) – The Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office arrested two Lansing residents early Saturday morning after deputies stopped a wrong-way driver traveling northbound in the southbound lanes of I-69 near Tekonsha.
Just before 3:00 a.m. the Calhoun County Consolidated Dispatch Authority received information from Branch County Dispatch regarding a vehicle traveling the wrong direction on I-69. Several motorists also contacted dispatch to report the vehicle.
A deputy with the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office responded to the area and confirmed the vehicle was traveling northbound in the southbound lanes of I-69 near Tekonsha. The deputy attempted to stop the slow-moving vehicle using emergency lights and siren, but the driver swerved around the patrol vehicle and continued traveling in the wrong direction.
Spike strips were then deployed on southbound I-69 near F Drive South. The vehicle struck the spike strips, causing three of the four tires to deflate, and came to a stop shortly afterward.
The Sheriff’s Office says the 29-year-old female driver from Lansing was arrested and lodged at the Calhoun County Jail on charges of Operating While Intoxicated, Carrying a Concealed Weapon (CCW), and CCW While Intoxicated.
The 35-year-old male passenger from Lansing was also arrested and lodged at the Calhoun County Jail for a CPL concealment violation while intoxicated.
