UNDATED (WKZO AM/FM) — DON’T PANIC! The Federal Shutdown has begun but the planes will fly and the mail will flow for now in West Michigan.
Air traffic controllers and TSA employees will stay on the job, ironically so will border patrol agents.
National Weather Service Meteorologist Rich Pullman says they will remain working….they just won’t get paid for a while, if ever.
The biggest impact will be felt by the 6300 federal workers in Michigan who will have just gotten a lump of coal for Christmas, whether they are required to report to work or not.
The Ford Presidential Museum will be closed through the shutdown and so will Federal Parks.
Don’t plan to get any help from the IRS if you call.
But if you have a date in Federal Court, don’t miss it. Government checks for retirees, healthcare and food programs should not be immediately affected.
The Pentagon Budget has already been approved so the NORAD Santa Tracker won’t be impacted by the shut down.
You will learn that your life is much more dependent on how local government operates than on what is going on in Washington D.C.
Imagine what would happen if police, fire, plow truck drivers and wastewater plant operators suddenly stopped getting paid and went home.
