BERRIEN COUNTY (WKZO AM/FM) — A Van Buren County man is in custody after a tense barricaded suspect incident inside a home in Waterviliet over the weekend.
A woman who lives on Forest Beach Road called 911 to tell police that her boyfriend, Joshua Peterson of Hartford, who was wanted on warrants, might be hiding inside her place.
The Berrien County Sheriff’s Department and officers from several other agencies responded. They say Peterson holed himself up in a bedroom and threatened to shoot anyone who came in.
Following over five hours of unsuccessful attempts to talk him into surrendering, they forcibly entered with a K-9 taking the lead and subdued Peterson.
He did not have a gun, just a piece of metal shaped like a gun. Peterson had cut his arms during the standoff, but those were the only injuries.
