DEARBORN (WKZO AM/FM) — Michigan drivers are getting an early holiday gift in the form of lower gas prices, as they have slipped below the $2 mark at some stations in Southwest Michigan.
Triple-A will release its latest figures at Midnight. The auto club says they were already at 2-year lows for this time of year when they last reported statewide averages.
They also predicted correctly that they would continue to drop as we head for some of the busiest holiday travel days of the year.
Prices at the pump for all grades are down. The price for self-serve regular is 41-cents lower than the price we paid during the Christmas travel period in 2017.
That’s about $14.00 less for a fill-up, compared to the 2018 peak which was reached last summer, and that’s if you use AAA’s current statewide average of $2.20 per gallon.
Prices at some stations are 20-cents lower than that.
While there is a lot to be said for having a white Christmas, if you are the driver of a van loaded with family members heading cross-country, you much prefer temperatures above freezing and clear roads to icy pavement and white outs.
It makes for a Merrier Christmas to get to your destination without frazzled nerves.
