COVERT, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – Just in time for the New Year … Van Buren County’s largest employer is back in operation.
Officials with Entergy announced on Friday that the Palisades Power Plant outside of Covert “returned to service” following what they say was a “successful” scheduled refueling and maintenance outage. The 26th such action in the nearly 48-year-old facility’s history replaced about a third of the fuel in the reactor, while about 19 hundred “professionals” inspected and upgraded hundreds of pipes, pumps, electrical components and other equipment that could only be done during the two months when Palisades was “off the grid.”
One more such outage is scheduled before the plant is permanently retired in the spring of 2022.
