HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — A Holland woman went to Holland Hospital with minor injuries after being hit by a car on Friday, Dec. 28, 2018, according to Holland Police Capt. Robert Buursma.
Officers were dispatched to Ninth Street at River Avenue at 7:15 a.m., he said.
Investigators found the 64-year-old Holland woman had been walking east across River Avenue, on the Ninth Street’s north-side cross walk. She was his by a 2013 Ford Fusion, with a 47-year-old Holland woman at the wheel, who had been traveling east on Ninth, and had moved into the far-left lane to turn onto northbound River. The driver turned after the light at that intersection turned green, hitting the pedestrian. The woman walking had stepped into the roadway after the pedestrian signal indicated it was safe to cross the street, according to investigators.
The driver didn’t see the pedestrain, Buursma said, because the woman walking was wearing all-dark clothing. Her injuries are not considered life-threatening.
“All intersections with high traffic and pedestrian volumes can be hazardous,” Buursma wrote in an email to WHTC. “Drivers must watch for and yield to pedestrians in the crosswalk, and those walking in the dark would be wise to wear reflective clothing and always be attentive to traffic.”
