KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – UPDATE: The family of a man recently shot and killed in an alleged home invasion case says he is innocent, and had gone to the home to play poker, according to a report from MLive Monday.
On Monday, the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety (KDPS) announced that a man was shot and killed over the weekend while allegedly trying to break into a home.
According to officials, the man was identified as 33-year-old Aaron Joseph Williams. Police say Williams was attempting to break into a home on Whittier Drive late Saturday night when he was shot multiple times by the owner.
He was rushed to a hospital where he later died from his injuries, according to police.
However, the family of Williams spoke with MLive Tuesday, saying that he had been invited to the home to play a poker game. They believe there was some sort of altercation that led to the shooting.
The family told MLive they are hoping charges will be pressed against the shooter.
Police did not provide any further updates, as the incident remains under investigation at this time.
