KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — A Kalamazoo County Commissioner wants authorities to better address the “X-train.”
The X-train is a nickname for a rolling caravan of partiers, sometimes reaching over a hundred people, who have been wreaking havoc on the city’s Northside for years.
The cars usually all gather in the same spots late at night and on the weekends, sometimes causing damage to nearby property, blocking streets, making noise, or even in some cases, firing off gunshots.
At Monday night’s Kalamazoo City Commission meeting, County Commissioner Stephanie Moore explained that just recently the participants caused damage at Northglade Elementary and got away with it because of a slow response by Public Safety.
“We deserve a response time that is adequate and we deserve follow up to make sure that these individuals who continue to do wrong in our community be dealt with…” Moore explained, “really not asking, I’m demanding. We deserve better. Our folks in our community deserve to be protected.”
The city commission approved an upgraded nuisance ordinance last year that was aimed at ending the X-Train. Now Commissioner Eric Cunningham is asking staff for an update on whether its working.
