BERRIEN COUNTY, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Authorities are investigating the shooting death of a dog following reports of gunfire at an apartment complex.
Police recieved word of gunshots being fired at Blossom Acres Apartment Complex on Concord Road in Benton Township on Wednesday, February 19th.
Officers arrived at the location after 3 P.M. and found that a dog had been shot at the complex, and then contacted Berrien County Animal Control who treated the animal before it died from its injuries.
Police say that they currently believe the dog was shot by one of two male suspects who were involved in a shootout not long after. By the time officers arrived, the two had left the scene on foot and are not considered to have suffered any injuries during the altercation.
An investigation into the suspects identities and what led to the dogs shooting is being conducted by area police.
