KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — In the midst of the COVID-19 outbreak, the City of Kalamazoo has announced that it will be suspending its April Spring Clean Up and Brush Programs for the time being.
According to city officials, the move is meant to focus resources on residential garbage collection. Currently, there is no date in place to resume operations.
However, citizens still have an additional option for getting rid of yard waste. While the program is suspended, citizens can drop off yard waste at the Best Way Transfer Station during business hours.
Best Way Transfer Station is located at 2606 Miller Road. The hours of operation are Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 5 p.m., while it is closed Saturday. More information can be found at the Best Way Website.
The move follows similar recent measures put in place by the Cities of Battle Creek and Portage, along with Kalamazoo Township.
The City of Battle Creek is temporarily suspending its Bulk Trash Pickup and curbside yard waste pickup programs.
Portage is also postponing its own Spring Cleanup event.
Kalamazoo Township officials say that Republic Services has cancelled the April 6-10 Bulk Trash Pickup. Republic has also delayed the start of the seasonal weekly yard waste pickup, which would have begun on April 1.
Weekly trash pickups will still continue as usual, but yard waste removal is not considered “essential.”
Citizens can check back for updates on all individual city websites.
