COOPER TOWNSHIP, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — The Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Office is reporting that a Cooper Township traffic crash has resulted in one death.
Police say the crash happened Tuesday around 7:40 p.m. on West C Avenue near N. 14th Street.
The crash occurred when a minivan travelling east on 14th attempted a left hand turn into a driveway in the path of a speeding westbound passenger car.
All three passengers of the minivan became trapped and seriously injured, later being extricated by the Cooper Fire Department. They were transferred to a hospital, but the front seat passenger, a 57-year-old Kalamazoo man, later died from his injuries.
The passenger car was also occupied by three people. Two passengers were transported to the hospital with serious injuries and the driver refused medical treatment.
Investigators say that speed appears to be a factor in this incident. The victim has since been identified as Kelly C. Brooks.
All other names are being withheld while the crash remains under investigation.
