KALAMAZOO COUNTY, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Just in time for spring fever, Kalamazoo County parks will be reopening on May 6th after being for multiple weeks because of the stay-at-home order.
All six park locations will be reopened for limited use to provide the public a place to hike, run, walk their dog, bike, and go boating or fishing.
Some amenities at Kalamazoo County Parks will remain closed under Governor Gretchen Whitmer’s executive order extending “Stay Home, Stay Safe” restrictions until May 15th.
County officials say they have actively consulted with local health officials to determine what activities should be allowed in the parks.
The following activities and facilities will be temporarily closed to the public:
- Playgrounds
- Campgrounds
- Dog parks
- The disc golf course
- The radio-controlled flying field
- Picnic shelters and picnic tables
A released statement by Kalamazoo County says that additional closures include all park offices and restroom buildings.
Park users are encouraged to dispose of any litter and trash outside of park grounds.
Walking trails, boat ramps, shoreline fishing, and bike trails will still be accessible to park visitors.
Park users must follow social distancing guidelines as follows:
- Go out only if you’re feeling healthy. Individuals must maintain a minimum of 6 feet between themselves and the people of other households.
- Bring and use a hand sanitizer containing at least 60% alcohol. When driving, keep windows slightly open to provide airflow.
- Do not drive with people who don’t live in your household.
- If the parking lot is full when attempting to visit a park, leave and choose a different nearby location.
