CHARLESTON TOWNSHIP, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — A driver could be facing charges after a police chase ended in a muddy crash and a drug bust near Galesburg.
Kalamazoo County Sheriff deputies were called to the 2700 block of North 36th Street near East H J Avenue around 6 p.m. Friday for a report of a possible narcotics sale and stolen property.
There they noticed a vehicle leaving the scene that closely matched a vehicle stolen the day prior out of Kalamazoo Township.
Authorities launched a vehicle pursuit but it quickly ended after the driver went off the road and became stuck in a muddy cornfield.
Undersheriff James VanDyken says they obtained a search warrant and the Kalamazoo Metro SWAT Team was called in to investigate the original home.
As a result, they located and seized suspected methamphetamines, firearms, and suspected counterfeit currency and drug-making equipment.
VanDyken tells us that during the home entry with the SWAT Team a dog was shot due to it being a threat to the authorities entering the home. He could not release any other details.
He says a case is now being put together for potential prosecution. Nobody is in custody at this time and an investigation is still underway.
“This is a criminal case, it’s moving forward. All that stuff was seized,” VanDyken says.
