PORTAGE, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — A portion of a busy street in Portage was temporarily shut down in response to a natural gas leak.
On Monday afternoon the Portage Fire Department was dispatched to the 7600 block of South Westnedge Avenue where a main gas line was struck.
As a precaution authorities closed a stretch of South Westnedge between Schuring Road and Centre Street going both directions.
The Kalamazoo County Consolidated Dispatch Authority said that as of 4:30 p.m. maintenance workers from Consumers Energy had arrived at the scene.
Dispatchers say that the road is now reopened and that Portage Public Safety vehicles have left the scene.
