KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — While it’s become a target at the White House, Kalamazoo’s City Clerk says they have never had so many people interested in voting by mail.
In recent news, President Trump has been feuding with Twitter over whether absentee ballots can be corrupted.
During a virtual city meeting Monday night, Clerk Scott Borling said the list of regular absentee voters has nearly tripled since January due to Governor Whitmer’s order that all voting be done by mail in May because of the pandemic.
According to Borling, just over 11,300 citizens have turned in their absentee ballots for mail-in voting.
Borling added that applications for both the August Primary and the November General Election have been recently mailed out.
“You can request a ballot just for November if you don’t want to vote in August, or you can request a ballot for both, so this gives voters a few options here,” Borling said.
The actual ballots will be mailed closer to the elections.
Voters approved election reforms last fall that allow any registered voter to vote absentee, whether or not they can make it to the polls on election day.
