KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — With some major winter weather and bitter cold temperatures hitting the area, Kalamazoo County Sheriff Richard Fuller is reminding residents of safe driving tips.
Please remember to drive appropriately, keep your hand on the wheel and don’t slam on the brakes. And especially, keep handheld devices on the seat or better yet, out of view.
Other tips from Fuller include leaving earlier for work and keeping an emergency off-road kit in your vehicle with items such as food, water, blankets and flashlights, should you get stranded. Fuller also noted that those who will be working from home on Friday should count themselves lucky.
A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for entire lower peninsula of Michigan including Allegan, Barry, Branch, Calhoun, Cass, Kalamazoo, St. Joseph and Van Buren counties locally. It’s in effect until at least 4:00 p.m. Friday.
Residents in the warned areas may see between 3 to 5 inches of snowfall, with wind gusts up to 40 mph through Thursday night and into Friday. Wind chills will also be at or below zero degrees on Friday and into the weekend at times.
