KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – With the election just a week away, early voting centers are now open in Kalamazoo County for those who don’t want to wait until next Tuesday, and risk waiting in lines at your regular polling place.
Kalamazoo City Clerk Scott Borling says Proposal 2 approved 9 days of early voting before election day.
Kalamazoo County will be operating four early voting locations through this Sunday for voters in 13 of the county’s 19 voting jurisdictions.
County Clerk Meredith Place says that’s meant more work and more workers, both temporary and full time.
Finding the right place to vote is just a little more complicated this time around because there are more early voting stations.
Voters in Brady, Climax, & Pavilion townships must vote at Pavilion Township Hall.
Voters residing in Comstock Township or the city of Galesburg must vote at Comstock Township Hall and Cooper Township residents vote at their own township hall.
All others can pick between the Douglass Community Association, the County Expo Center, the Fetzer Center on Western Michigan University’s campus or the Portage Parks & Recreation facility on Library Lane.
One difference is that the early polling places will be keeping regular business hours, unlike polling places next Tuesday, that will be open until 8 p.m.
