RICHLAND, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Michigan State Police have officially submitted their criminal investigation file regarding the Gull Lake High School football program to Oceana County Prosecutor Joseph Bizon.
The long-running probe stemmed from allegations of multiple assaults that reportedly occurred late June during a varsity team football camp at Lake Michigan Family Campground near Pentwater.
Over the course of the multi-jurisdictional investigation, state troopers secured at least three videos documenting the alleged incidents. Following the initial reports, head coach Jalon Simpson was placed on paid administrative leave, and the school district ultimately canceled its 2026 varsity football season in August after players voiced severe safety and competitive concerns.
Prosecutor Bizon confirmed that his office has been in contact regarding the case file, but emphasized that it will take a considerable amount of time for his team to thoroughly review the extensive evidence before making any charging decisions. He said the state police report is more than 350 pages.
No criminal charges have been filed against any individuals as of today.
Meanwhile, Gull Lake Community Schools Superintendent Drew Bordner has not publicly confirmed whether the district’s separate, internal Title IX investigations into the matter are complete, or if any students or personnel have faced institutional discipline.
