KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – A new community initiative created to provide comfort, dignity, and a sense of belonging to women and children staying at YWCA Kalamazoo kicked off Thursday.
The Junior League of Kalamazoo announced the official launch of the Dreamtime Closet in conjunction with Find the Good Day, an annual day dedicated to finding the good in yourself, your community, and the world around you.
Created by The Association of Junior Leagues International in 2023, Find the Good Day is observed across the United States and several countries, with Junior Leagues around the world engaging in service to their communities on the third Thursday of September.
Through the Dreamtime Closet, women, and children staying at the YWCA Kalamazoo will receive bedding and a new set of pajamas to take with them as they begin their next steps. Those items are theirs to keep.
The Dreamtime Closet is made possible through funding from the Junior League of Kalamazoo, along with donations from community members and supporters.
“We are incredibly proud to launch the Dreamtime Closet and to partner with YWCA Kalamazoo on a project that is centered around dignity, comfort, and choice,” said Kate Appel, President of the Junior League of Kalamazoo.
“Having the opportunity to support the community in a meaningful way and give basic needs to those, at a time they need them the most, is what the Junior League of Kalamazoo is all about. Giving people the comfort and dignity at a difficult time was something that spoke to a majority of our members as we developed ideas for projects and this partnership with the YWCA was the perfect fit for our desire to have another community project.”
