KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – A clash between Kalamazoo Public Safety officers and a group of northside neighbors holding a Sunday Funday at Spring Valley Park in late June has resulted in policy changes.
Public safety got a noise complaint, and when a few at the party refused to turn down the volume, the officers went into nuisance party mode and cleared the park.
Vice Mayor Drew Duncan says after discussions, they have decided from now on that park rangers will respond first to complaints about park rules violations.
He says it’s just a matter of dispatching the appropriate department.
One of the organizers says they have been holding the event regularly for years. Now they will start getting permits.
Duncan added that all of the license plate information taken that Sunday has been discarded.
