KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – You have heard about the plans for the two-way conversion of downtown Kalamazoo streets, you may have even seen drawings, and now comes the movie.
The city of Kalamazoo has put together a short film, and while it’s no Steven Spielberg production, it will give you an animated peek at what downtown streets will look like when the multi-million-dollar conversion is completed at the end of the decade.
It’s part of an ambitious communications strategy to maximize the messaging and minimize the hassles when they start tearing up Kalamazoo Avenue next month.
Here’s city planner Christina Anderson.
She says they are planning to hold a series of meetings with the public and impacted parties on exactly what they have planned for downtown this summer and fall.
The first will be next Tuesday at 4 p.m.
Anderson says they will also be using email, billboards, temporary road signs, their website and several other downtown web-hubs, radio advertising, posters, mailers and face to face meetings with business owners to get the word out about detours, and how to get around town despite the construction.
They will also be creating a centralized hub for questions at their 3-1-1 number.
The film can be downloaded at the city’s website beginning today.
