KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Information on the upcoming Kalamazoo Avenue Streets for All project will be presented at a public preconstruction meeting later this month.
City officials say the meeting will provide practical information about upcoming construction activities, including project phasing, traffic routing, access, communications, and what residents, businesses, and visitors can expect during construction. Nearby residents, property owners, downtown business owners, employees, customers, and those who regularly travel through the project area are especially encouraged to attend.
The meeting will be held Tuesday, June 23 from 4:00-5:00 p.m. at Metro Transit, 530 North Rose Street.
City staff, project engineers, and the construction management team will provide a presentation covering the project, construction schedule, anticipated impacts, and what community members can expect throughout construction. Following the presentation, attendees will have an opportunity to ask questions, meet with project staff, and discuss how construction will be carried out.
Attendees will have the opportunity to learn about:
The construction schedule and project phasing
Traffic routing and access during construction
What residents, businesses, and visitors should expect throughout the project
How to stay informed through project communications and updates
The broader Streets for All initiative and long-term benefits of the project
“The improvements coming to Kalamazoo Avenue will modernize critical infrastructure, create a safer and more connected corridor, and help support the future growth of our community,” said Christina Anderson, City Planner and Deputy Director of Community Planning & Economic Development. “Projects of this size inevitably come with construction impacts, and we know that can be frustrating at times. This meeting is an opportunity to learn what to expect, connect directly with the project team, and make sure you have the information you need to stay informed throughout construction.”
Constructuion on Kalamazoo Avenue is expected to begin in July and represents one of the largest infrastructure investments in the corridor in decades. Work will include replacement of underground utilities, roadway reconstruction, streetscape improvements, and infrastructure improvements that support the corridor’s planned future conversion to two-way traffic.
