ALLEGAN, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, May 26, 2026) – Just what do Allegan County residents think about how their trash are handled?
The county’s health department has begun taking input from a 15-question survey aimed at finding out how those who live and work in the county handle their refuse and recycling, as well as ways such necessities can be improved upon. The results of this 10-day canvassing, through June 3rd, will be used to help influence the department’s Materials Management Plan.
“The way we manage waste not only shapes environmental outcomes but also the health of our communities. Residents have the opportunity to directly provide input on the County’s programming.” – Randy Rapp, Allegan County Environmental Health Services Manager and member of the Allegan County MMP Committee
The survey takes around five minutes to complete and will ask about:
- Recycling services currently available and used
- Barriers to and frequency of recycling
- Cost of recycling services
- Support for new materials management services
- Preferred communication methods
An online link to the survey is here.

The way recycling is picked up is wrong..you charge a fee for the people to recycle..it should be FREE..I recently moved back to Michigan after a 28 yr absent. I lived in Fayetteville. Arkansas..population 97000..they never charged the residents there a fee to recyle..only for trash..but hear..so sad my home state is still in the dark ages..it was free to recycle.not like here..you got a blue bin..you put your glass.cans ect..ect..and after trash pick up they would come along and put the cans..glass.paper.ect..ect.in separate compartments on a truck ..im into recycling but will not pay your fee..so sad..then you pay ridiculous wages to hire people to sort through mounds of recycling trash..what a disgrace..if fayetteville arkansas can have that why not here..why im thinking..the state doesn’t care.all about money.
