PORTAGE, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The Portage city council will begin their search for a new city manager at this evening’s meeting, following the announcement from Pat McGinnis that he plans to retire, effective July 3rd of this year.
His tenure will end just a week short of four years in the top administrative position at Portage City Hall.
On the agenda is a review of a presentation from Walsh Municipal Services, a Coldwater-based firm that has been contracted by the Portage city council before to recruit city administrators.
The headhunting firm is proposing a national search along with a schedule that could bring a new city manager to town by early this fall.
McGinnis’s tenure with the city has been event filled, seeing the community through the end of the pandemic, and through lake center homeowner opposition to a proposed housing development. He oversaw the city’s recovery from the devastating effects of the tornado two years ago this month and most recently the voter uprising over the move to the single hauler trash contract.
The council is also expected to give final approval to their next city budget at this evening’s meeting, which will take effect July 1st, just before McGinnis’s last day on the job.
