KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Voters in Galesburg-Augusta Community Schools have approved the district’s $11.2 million bond proposal by a vote of 964 to 880.
The bond will allow the district to remodel school buildings and facilities, equip, re-equip, furnish, and refurnish schools and facilities, erect a new transportation facility, acquire, install, equip, and re-equip schools with instructional technology, and develop, improve, and equip facilities.
The bond will be for 1 mill, $1 on every $1,000 of taxable value.
In Vicksburg Community Schools, voters also approved a $64 million bond by a vote of 1,714 to 1,345.
The district will use the money to build a new transportation facility, auxiliary gym, and structures for a new outdoor education center. It will also be put toward improving security with new cameras and exterior doors, acquiring instructional technology equipment, buying school buses, adding new tennis courts and improve other athletic fields.
The millage rate for the bond will be 3.83 mills for 20 years.
Comstock Public Schools, however, were not successful in their bond request. Voters there defeated the request by a vote of 1,291 to 1,159.
The district had been seeking $23.7 million for improved school safety and security, new school buses, instructional technology, improving athletic fields, and more.
In the Mattawan Consolidated School District, voters approved a school operating millage renewal with 2,194 voting in favor and 906 voting no.
The vote extends the current millage rate of 19.4227 mills for four years and will be used for school operations.
