KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Partially funded by a $14 million Federal Aviation Administration grant, an extension of of the primary runway at the Kalamazoo/Battle Creek International Airport is underway.
Ground was broken Monday at the end of Runway 17-35, marking a major milestone in the airport’s long-term infrastructure and safety enhancement efforts.
Construction is expected to be finished by this fall. It extend the runway by 450 feet to the south. According to airport officials, that will provide pilots with additional operational distance and improving overall safety margins.
Airport Director Craig Williams says that will strengthen their ability to serve the region for years to come.
