KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Three people are in police custody after the Kalamazoo Valley Enforcement Team and Crime Reduction Team seized four illegally possessed firearms last Thursday.
Officers found the first suspect in the 500 block of Phelps Avenue. He is an 18-year-old man who they knew and was not eligible to carry a concealed weapon, and he threw the gun onto a nearby roof when he was trying to run away. He was arrested for resisting and obstructing along with weapons offenses.
The second investigation was in the 2400 block of Gull Road when a 21-year-old man was seen concealing a firearm under his jacket and was with two other men. They were followed to the 5500 block of Gull Road, and the suspect was arrested after also trying to run away.
A stolen gun from the city of Kalamazoo was recovered from him.
The other two people, a 22-year-old man and a 16-year-old boy, walked away when the 21-year-old was arrested but were detained when the 22-year-old was seen throwing a gun away in a nearby dumpster.
The 16-year-old was released to a guardian pending more investigation, and the other three men are in the Kalamazoo County Jail.
