LANSING, MI — UM Health-Sparrow says it is honoring a young man who turned tragedy into hope and will be forever recognized for his gift of life. His name, along with 25 other donors, will join a memorial wall celebrating organ donors at UM Health-Sparrow Lansing.
According to a press release, Tyler Coffey, 22, of Lansing, made a decision that meant four strangers would live, donating his heart, both kidneys and liver following his death. Coffey was an Eagle Scout, a multi-sport athlete, a welder, a coach and a volunteer. He was weeks from marrying his fiancé, Taryn, when he was killed by a drunk driver in August 2025.
A ceremony is scheduled for today (Friday) with members of his family and Gift of Life Michigan leaders. The ceremony will commemorate Tyler’s placement on the memorial wall in UM Health-Sparrow Lansing’s lobby.
