ALLEGAN, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Apr. 17, 2026) – It has been three days since storms slammed into the southeast corner of Allegan County, but its aftermath will be felt for some time.
On Thursday, county officials said that field assessments of damage caused by two tornadoes in the Otsego/Plainwell vicinity continue by members of the Emergency Management, County Equalization, and the Search and Rescue departments. No dollar estimate has yet been disclosed, as Governor Whitmer issued a state of emergency proclamation on Wednesday, which included Allegan County among 33 counties statewide that have suffered weather-related storm damage so far in April.
There have been no reports of any injuries or fatalities in Allegan County suffered as a result of Tuesday night’s storms, which knocked out power to over 12,500 electricity customers at its height. Consumers Energy completed restoration efforts to nearly all those affected on Thursday.
