KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – A $13 million project to add a lane to the westbound I-94 to northbound U.S. 131 interchange near Kalamazoo began Monday.
Work is expected to be completed by September 2026, but it began Monday with a single lane closure on U.S. 131 between I-94 and Stadium Drive.
Michigan Department of Transportation officials say at least one lane will remain open throughout the course of the project.
In April, the ramp from northbound U.S. 131 to westbound I-94 will close. The ramp from westbound I-94 to northbound U.S. 131 will be closed and rebuilt between Memorial Day and Labor Day.
The project also includes the construction of a noise wall along southbound U.S. 131, providing a buffer for homes along South 12th Street.
