PORTAGE, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Portage Public Safety officers got a little more than they were expecting when they responded to a call of a woman screaming in a parking lot last Monday.
They found Jessiah and Victory Short of Portage in the car, with Victory screaming with their son, Sire, being born.
Victory was 38 weeks and three days into her pregnancy and had been in prodromal labor for a week with consistent contractions, but little dilation.
She realized the baby was coming, and she felt him crowning when they reached the last step on the stairs.
Jessiah called 911 and was on the phone when the baby started to emerge and the officers Kaitlin Dey, Chris Swier, and Mallory Southward arrived just as Sire was born at 8:10 p.m.
The three took care of the family and got them to the hospital, and Sire had to undergo heat therapy because his temperature was too low.
He weighed 7 pounds, 12 ounces and everyone is back home.
