KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – As tensions continue to rise in Minneapolis and members of the Kalamazoo City Commission have begun discussions on how the city should respond if federal immigration enforcement activity increases locally, a committee of the Kalamazoo County Democratic Party is hosting a public forum on that very topic tonight.
Organizers say the discussion will be focused on community safety, civil rights, and preparedness. Speakers include Kalamazoo County Sheriff Rick Fuller, Kalamazoo Vice Mayor Drew Duncan, and Lily Eggeres of the American Civil Liberties Union. It will take place at the Crawlspace Comedy Theatre, 315 West Michigan Avenue, beginning at 6:00 p.m.
At last week’s Kalamazoo City Commission meeting, residents spent several hours raising concerns about potential activity by ICE, Customs and Border Protection, and Homeland Security.
In addition to the panel discussion, organizers say attendees will have access to resources, information tables, and opportunities to take action in support of communities in need.
