KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The Housing for All millage fund has been tapped again to address the housing shortage in Kalamazoo County, and to bail out dozens of vulnerable residents who depend on federal vouchers to stay out of the cold.
This week, the board allocated $1.16 million from the millage to maintain supports for homeowners who had relied on the federal housing project that was suddenly cut off with the new year.
Jeff Patton, director of Integrated Services of Kalamazoo, says the hope is that the federal Housing and Urban Development money will be restored.
Board chair Jen Strebs says the recipients are among the chronically homeless, with disabilities and complex health or behavioral health needs.
The county board temporarily propped up the program in December to fund it through March using reallocated ARPA dollars.
This would extend the temporary funding to the end of this year.
