KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The city of Kalamazoo says residents and commercial property owners will have a grace period for property clean-up before the city’s Trash Ordinance will be enforced.
The grace period for litter violations will be in effect through Sunday, April 13. Property owners are encouraged to remove any accumulated debris without penalty.
Starting Monday, April 14, the city will “actively enforce” the ordinance. That means a written enforcement notice will be given granting 10 days for compliance, and a $79 inspection fee will be assessed.
A $230 civil infraction will be issued if the trash isn’t picked up within 10 days. If the matter goes to court and the city wins the case, cleanup crews will be dispatched to restore the property to compliance and all costs will be billed to the property owner.
