PORTAGE, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Six people were displaced but there were no injuries after a fire broke out at an adult foster care home in Portage late Saturday afternoon.
The Portage Department of Public Safety says firefighters were called to Delight’s AFC on Trotwood Street north of Tattersall around 5:30 p.m. when a worker smelled smoke.
The fire apparently started in the garage and soon spread to the attic and roof. Firefighters from Portage, Kalamazoo and Oshtemo Township got the fire quickly under control, but the house sustained significant damage.
The Portage Department of Public Safety Fire Division says they believe the fire was caused by smoking materials that weren’t disposed of correctly.
