LANSING, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The tipped credit for minimum wage is a step closer to being preserved in Michigan as the state House passed a Senate bill yesterday to keep it in place and raise minimum wage to almost $15 an hour by February 2028.
The House also tie-barred the bill to one of theirs they passed last month on paid sick leave changes.
Negotiations are underway in the Senate on that bill, which needs to pass there for both to be sent to Governor Whitmer for her signature.
House Democrats largely opposed the paid sick time changes.
Representative Matt Longjohn of Kalamazoo says he voted against it because employees need and deserve the paid time off for being sick.
Longjohn is the only physician elected to either the state House or Senate.
